Screen Printing, is creating artwork or picture on garment, cloth, paper stock, or any object by applying squeegee pressure through a silk screen with pixeled like areas plugged off from a stencil called emulsion. The image is burned using a vellum material which has the printed artwork in a dark black ink that doesn’t allow light to pass through. The vellum is placed between the screen and a device called an exposure unit which uses UV light. When the exposure unit is turned on for a time range usually between two or six minutes the UV light cures the emulsion not blocked out from the artwork. When the exposure process is complete, the screen is taken over to a washout booth where the screen is sprayed with water and the emulsion that wasn’t cured by the UV light is then washed out and creates the image. The screen is then left to dry until the print process begins.
